Knowing Your Cardiac CT Calcium Score or CAC Score
Knowing your score could save your life, Coronary Artery Calcium (CAC) Score, is a quick and noninvasive way of evaluating the amount of calcified (hard) plaque in your heart vessels. The plaque in the arteries can cause a heart attack. The coronary artery calcium (CAC) testing helps reveal your risk of heart disease, often before other warning signs appear. Our cardiologists read the images and send your doctor a report. Patients with higher scores have a greater risk of heart attack or stroke. Knowing your score can help your doctor decide on blood pressure and cholesterol goals that will minimize your risk.
Zero Calcium score tells you that you have a very low cardiovascular risk and may not need to start statin cholesterol lowering medications in most cases.
